SOMERSET, KY – Recently, the Somerset-Pulaski Chamber of Commerce, Pulaski County Cooperative Extension Office, Kentucky Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Co., Larry Vanhook & Don Hurt Agencies and Farm Credit Mid-America invited 38 civic leaders to attend a City-To-Farm Tour to help educate our community about the changes that have occurred in agriculture over the past decade.
This behind-the-scenes look at local agriculture allowed community leaders the opportunity to meet the hard-working farmers and producers who keep the heritage of agriculture alive and viable in Pulaski County.
“The primary focus of this trip was to educate people not involved with agriculture on how local farming has changed in recent years and its importance to our region,” said Bobby Clue, Chamber of Commerce Executive Director. “The greatest value of this trip may have been the opportunity to develop a deeper respect for where our food comes from and how it directly impacts Pulaski County.”
Stops on the tour included Chris Pierce Grain Farm, D&F Farms, Cedar Creek Winery and Haney’s Apple Farm.
“Agriculture is a major industry in Pulaski County and is essential to the health of our rural economy,” said Pulaski County Judge Executive Barty Bullock. “Our community has one of the most diverse agriculture bases and it excites me to be able to discuss this with community leaders.”
This Farm Tour serves as an opportunity for people to learn more about agribusinesses and the key role that the agriculture industry plays in Kentucky’s economy. The tour also provides a chance for members of the agriculture community to share concerns and discuss how current regulations may affect their operations.
