Work alongside National Park Service Park Rangers on the nation’s largest single-day volunteer event for public lands, National Public Lands Day (NPLD)! Help us celebrate the 29th annual NPLD by participating in our effort to create a more eco-friendly and sustainable landscape at our Visitor Center.
Start the day by participating in a talk given by the Lake Cumberland Master Gardeners and University of Kentucky Extension Agent Beth Wilson about the importance of native plants; help us take out non-native roses, boxwoods, and invasive heavenly bamboo (nandina); remove lava rock and landscape fabric; prepare our plant beds for the addition of native Kentucky species, and remove a deteriorating snake fence on the property.
Volunteers interested in participating in NPLD are asked to pre-register. Apply for this opportunity by going to https://www.volunteer.gov/…/national-public-lands-day-2022, or reach out to the park’s Community Volunteer Ambassador Mara Woollard at mara_woollard@partner.nps.gov, or call the park during business hours (10 am – 4 pm; Wednesday – Sunday) at (606)636-4045.
To show our appreciation, all event volunteers will be gifted a fee-free pass for one-time entry into participating public lands.
The event will take place at the Mill Springs Battlefield National Monument (MISP) Visitor Center at 9020 West Highway 80 in Nancy, KY. Parking and drop-off, including accessible parking, will be available in the Visitor Center parking lot.
