You’re cordially invited to attend our upcoming Chamber of Commerce monthly luncheon on Tuesday, August 6th. We are excited to host Duke University Assistant Professor of Neurobiology, Dr. John Pearson as our guest speaker.
Somerset native Dr. John Pearson is currently an Assistant Professor in Neurobiology at Duke University, with appointments in Biostatistics & Bioinformatics, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Psychology & Neuroscience. He earned his bachelor’s degree in physics and mathematics from the University of Kentucky, and his PhD in Physics from Princeton. He became a neuroscientist at Duke University, where he did his postdoctoral training with Michael Platt, investigating the neurobiology of reward and decision-making.
Work in the Pearson Lab focuses on the application of machine learning methods to the analysis of brain data and behavior. In particular, they are interested in questions like, “how do songbirds learn complex skills like singing on their own?” “What can information theory tell us about how the eye sees?” and “How do we design new types of neuroscience experiments that learn and adapt in real time?”
This should be one of the most unique luncheon speakers we have ever had the pleasure of hosting.
Lunch will be held at The Center for Rural Development and will begin at 12:00 (Noon).
Please make your plans to attend this very interesting luncheon.
