We are excited to host Former Founder and CEO of Lexington Legends Baseball, Alan Stein as our guest speaker.

Alan Stein may be best known for bringing professional baseball back to Lexington in 2001 as the founder of the Lexington Legends, but he has a long list of interests and accomplishments.

As a student at the University of Kentucky, he led the Student Activities Board, and brought Jimmy Buffett, Bruce Springsteen and Harry Chapin to perform in the Student Center Grand Ballroom at UK in their pre-superstar days. (A ticket for the Buffett show November 2, 1973 cost two dollars.)

Alan is a longtime business, education and public service leader in Lexington and Kentucky, and though he now refers to himself as “retired,” he remains very active in a variety of organizations, including the Fayette Education Foundation.

Alan’s work in baseball extended well beyond the Legends. He has been part of the ownership of teams in other cities, and has held numerous leadership positions in professional baseball. But first of all, he was a fan, and this conversation begins with his lifelong support of the Cincinnati Reds and trips to Crosley Field in the 1950s and 60s. It also covers the Legends’ story, the challenges, rewards, and fun of minor league baseball, his connections with some of baseball’s biggest names – and of course, the story behind those concerts at UK in the early 70s.

Lunch will be held at The Center for Rural Development and will begin promptly at 12:00 (Noon).
