The Chamber of Commerce and SPEDA would like to invite you to join us for an evening celebrating one of Kentucky’s most iconic political figures as we raise a glass of Kentucky Senator Bourbon on Tuesday, August 22nd.

John Sherman Cooper was one of the most enduring and popular public figures in Kentucky in the post World War II era.

Cooper was first elected to the Senate in 1946 to fill a vacancy. He lost his reelection bid but returned to the Senate in 1952 and again in 1956 to fill two other vacancies. He was then reelected to two terms and served a total of 20 years. He was an early sponsor of civil rights legislation and one of the first senators to support censure of Senator Joseph McCarthy in the 1950s. Following his Senate service, he served as delegate to the United Nations and as ambassador to India and Nepal. He was also the first U.S. ambassador to East Germany.

Join us as Kentucky Senator Bourbon recognizes Somerset’s own U.S. Senator John Sherman Cooper with its 4th commemorative release. Co-Founders Andre Regard and Damon Thayer revived this brand in 2019, which is marked by an authentic blending of history and commitment to selling the finest Kentucky Bourbon whiskey

American singer-songwriter, Stoll Vaughan will also be in attendance to play music from his new album. Stoll is the great-nephew of United States Senator John Sherman Cooper.

Being influenced by Bob Dylan, Townes Van Zandt, John Prine, Stoll embarked on the journey of writing his own songs. By the mid ‘00s, he released two solo albums, Hold On Thru Sleep & Dreams and Love Like A Mule. Both were in the Top 10 on the Americana charts. He has toured with the likes of John Mellencamp, John Fogerty, James McMurtry, Marty Stuart and opened for a Def Leppard/Journey co-bill (to name a few).

The event will be held at The Virginia Theater in Downtown Somerset and heavy appetizers will be served for all attendees.

The event will begin at 5:30pm on Tuesday, August 22nd.
