SUMMARY:Friends of Lake Cumberland 2022 Fall Clean Up
DESCRIPTION:Bring your family or friends to enjoy a day of community service in one of the most scenic spots in the Commonwealth.\nThe cleanup is held at locations all over the lake to remove trash\, tires\, appliances\, etc.\, from the vast shoreline.\nBeginning at 8 a.m. LOCAL TIME\, volunteers should check at one of these locations:\n1. Clinton County – Grider Hill Dock (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Lake%20Cumberland%20Grider%20Hill%20Marina/412016968835354/)\n2. Pulaski County – Waitsboro Recreation Area (500 Waitsboro Rd\, Somerset\, KY 42503)\n3. Pulaski County – Burnside Island State Park (https://www.facebook.com/GeneralBurnsideIsland)\n4. Russell County – Lake Cumberland State Park (https://www.facebook.com/LakeCumberlandSRP)\n5 Russell County – Halcomb’s Landing\n6. Wayne County – Conley Bottom Resort (https://www.facebook.com/Conley-Bottom-Resort-103535429689617)\nAt registration\, volunteers will receive trash bags and gloves.\nGroups are encouraged to pre-register so they can be assigned a cleanup area. SUMMARY:National Public Lands Day 2022 - Volunteer Event at Mill Springs Battlefield
DESCRIPTION:Work alongside National Park Service Park Rangers on the nation’s largest single-day volunteer event for public lands\, National Public Lands Day (NPLD)! Help us celebrate the 29th annual NPLD by participating in our effort to create a more eco-friendly and sustainable landscape at our Visitor Center.\nStart the day by participating in a talk given by the Lake Cumberland Master Gardeners and University of Kentucky Extension Agent Beth Wilson about the importance of native plants; help us take out non-native roses\, boxwoods\, and invasive heavenly bamboo (nandina); remove lava rock and landscape fabric; prepare our plant beds for the addition of native Kentucky species\, and remove a deteriorating snake fence on the property.\nVolunteers interested in participating in NPLD are asked to pre-register. Apply for this opportunity by going to https://www.volunteer.gov/…/national-public-lands-day-2022\, or reach out to the park’s Community Volunteer Ambassador Mara Woollard at mara_woollard@partner.nps.gov\, or call the park during business hours (10 am – 4 pm; Wednesday – Sunday) at (606)636-4045.\nTo show our appreciation\, all event volunteers will be gifted a fee-free pass for one-time entry into participating public lands.\nThe event will take place at the Mill Springs Battlefield National Monument (MISP) Visitor Center at 9020 West Highway 80 in Nancy\, KY. Parking and drop-off\, including accessible parking\, will be available in the Visitor Center parking lot.
