SUMMARY:"Voices & Votes: Democracy in America" Exhibit at the Center
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe Center for Rural Development has been chosen by the Kentucky Humanities to host “Voices and Votes”\, a Smithsonian Traveling Exhibit\, as part of the Museum on Main Street program—a national/state/local partnership to bring exhibitions and programs to rural cultural organizations. The exhibition examines the nearly 250-year-old American experiment of a government “of\, by and for the people\,” and how each generation since continues to question how to form “a more perfect union.” The Center is honored to host this traveling art exhibit from June 19-July 24\, 2021 –Stop by The Center and view the exhibit from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday and during extended evening and weekend hours when the building is open to the general public. DESCRIPTION:Directed by Amber Frangos\nJuly 22-Aug. 1\, 2021\nThomas Mendip\, weary of the world\, comes to a small town and demands to be hanged. A philosophical humorist\, Thomas is annoyed when officials deny his request\, even believing he is not guilty of the crime he admits. Shortly afterward\, a young woman\, Jennet\, is brought before the Mayor for witchcraft\, but for some strange reason she has no wish to be put to death! Thomas tries to prove how absurd it would be to refuse to hang a man who wants to be hanged\, and at the same time execute a woman who is not only guiltless\, but doesn’t want to die. \nLocation:\nJoe Ford Amphitheatre (bring your own seating)\nRocky Hollow Park\nSomerset\, Kentucky \nA shuttle will be available to the Amphitheater from the parking lot next to the Central Ave Park Entrance beginning one hour prior to the performance and immediately following the performance. \nRestrooms will be available on-site during performances.  \nPatrons may bring in food and non-alcoholic beverages but should respect the property and clean up after themselves at the end of the night.
